FREEHOLD, N.J. — Freehold Raceway Mall will host a blood drive organized by New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) on Monday, Oct. 21. The event comes at a critical time as blood donations are needed to replenish the national supply, which has been disrupted by severe weather in the Southeast.
NJBS has issued an urgent call for donors, citing the impact of Hurricane Milton on blood collection efforts in Florida. Blood centers in the region have faced closures, leaving hospitals in affected areas struggling to maintain adequate supplies.
Hurricane Milton, which recently hit Florida’s west coast, has further strained the nation’s blood supply, which was already limited. Hospitals across the tri-state area and beyond rely on donations to meet both everyday and emergency medical needs.
The blood drive will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the lower level of the Macy’s Wing at Freehold Raceway Mall. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are encouraged.
Blood donations collected at the event will be used to support hospitals in areas impacted by the storm, as well as local facilities in need of additional supplies.
