Route 18 Closure Announced
Roadway Closed - The road has been closed. Police advice alternative routes.

East Brunswick, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced the scheduled closure and detour of Route 18 southbound in East Brunswick for overnight pavement work. The closures will begin tonight, October 11, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day, and will continue overnight on October 14, 15, and 16 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. The closure will affect the stretch of Route 18 from Rues Lane to Hillsdale Road as part of a drainage improvement project.

The detour for Route 18 southbound will direct motorists to turn right onto Rues Lane, left onto Summerhill Road (CR 613), then left onto Main Street (CR 615), and back onto Route 18 southbound via the ramp. For those needing to access Route 18 northbound, drivers should continue under the Route 18 Overpass, turn left onto Old Bridge Turnpike (CR 527), and take the ramp to Route 18 northbound.

This closure is part of the $86.1 million Route 18 rehabilitation project, which includes milling, paving, drainage improvements, utility relocations, and installation of new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps over approximately 4.5 miles in East Brunswick. Intersection upgrades and guiderail improvements are also included. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2026.

Motorists are advised to stay updated on traffic changes through NJDOT’s website, 511nj.org, and social media channels. The schedule may change due to weather or other factors.
