Prince Frederick, MD — Brandon Alexander Turner, a 23-year-old resident of Greenbelt, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday for the attempted first-degree murder of Calvert County Master Deputy Sheriff James Flynt. The sentence, which includes 40 years of active time, was handed down on October 11.
Turner also received consecutive sentences for first-degree assaults on Deputy Anthony Aranda and Deputy Tyler Bowen, with his total period of incarceration amounting to 66 years.
The charges stemmed from an incident occurring on December 17, 2022. On that evening, Turner led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase for nearly 10 miles along MD Route 4. During this pursuit, he fired several shots at the deputies from his vehicle. The chase concluded near the Walnut Creek subdivision in Huntingtown following Deputy Flynt’s tactical maneuver, causing Turner’s vehicle to crash. After the crash, Turner exited his vehicle and shot Deputy Flynt in the leg, severely injuring him.
Turner’s trial took place in June, where he was convicted by a jury of 16 offenses.
