FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Monmouth County Grand Jury has indicted a former youth gymnastics coach on charges of sexual offenses involving three of his former student-athletes, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Monday.
Sasha C. Raught, 56, of Manchester Township, faces one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and three counts of second-degree sexual assault. The charges stem from allegations that Raught entered into sexual relationships with the athletes when they were teenagers.
Investigators say the first two incidents allegedly occurred while Raught was employed at Shrewsbury Gymnastics in the 1990s. A third incident reportedly took place in 2008, when Raught was working at Jonas Gymnastics Academy in Marlboro.
Raught was arrested in May 2023 at his home by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Manchester Police, and Shrewsbury Police. He was subsequently lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Keri-Leigh Schaefer is handling the case. Raught is represented by attorney Daniel J. Holzapfel of Wall Township.
