BOSTON, Mass. — Boston Police officers made several firearm-related arrests on Saturday, August 24, 2024, recovering a total of nine loaded firearms across the city. In all incidents, no officers or suspects were injured. One notable arrest involved a 15-year-old juvenile male, apprehended by members of the Youth Violence Strike Force in Dorchester.

The incident occurred around 2:11 a.m. when officers were on patrol near Washington Street and Talbot Avenue. They noticed a male suspect who was known to have recently possessed a firearm. The suspect was walking with another individual who was riding a bicycle with flat tires.

As officers parked their cruiser to observe the suspect, he became aware of their presence and attempted to distance himself from the individual on the bicycle. The suspect then fled the scene, prompting officers to follow him in their cruiser.

During the pursuit, officers saw the suspect discard his backpack in the vicinity of 380 Talbot Avenue before continuing to run. A description of the fleeing suspect was immediately broadcasted, and officers began searching the area. The suspect was eventually found hiding under a vehicle.

After detaining the juvenile, officers recovered the discarded backpack, which contained a loaded firearm. The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and other related offenses.

This arrest is part of a broader effort by Boston Police to address gun violence in the city, with multiple arrests and firearm recoveries occurring throughout the day. Further details on the other arrests were not immediately available.
