Police Body Cam of Drunk Driver Who Nearly Struck Multiple People in Belmar Released

BELMAR, NJ— A man who was visibly drunk and crashed into a vehicle after nearly missing several pedestrians is facing multiple charges.

On July 11, at around 9:16 AM, Belmar Police Department officer Kevin Marron responded to a motor vehicle accident on Ocean Avenue near Third Avenue. Officer Marron found a 2016 Dodge Ram and a 2015 GMC Acadia involved in the incident. The GMC was driven by 44-year-old Jason Nagy, who appeared to have struck the Dodge.

Nagy exhibited signs of impairment, and during a field sobriety test, he was unable to maintain his balance, leading to his arrest for suspected DWI. An open bottle of vodka was discovered in his vehicle.

Nagy was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for evaluation. The accident caused significant damage to city property, including the railings and boardwalk, with estimated damages exceeding $10,000.

Witnesses reported that Nagy had backed out of a parking space and traveled the wrong way, eventually striking the boardwalk. Officer Marron and his team secured the area and managed the aftermath, including the transportation of Nagy’s dog by Monmouth County SPCA.

At the hospital, Nagy consented to a blood draw after being read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. He was later processed at the police station, where he faced multiple charges including assault by auto and criminal mischief. This is not Nagy’s first DWI arrest; he has prior incidents dating back to 2006 and 2014, and another recent arrest in Wall Township on July 14.

Nagy is currently awaiting further court proceedings, with significant charges and multiple traffic violations from the Belmar incident pending.
