Worcester, MA – Authorities have issued a public warning following the discovery of three homemade explosive devices in Worcester.

The Massachusetts State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit, Worcester Police Department, Worcester Fire Department, and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are conducting an ongoing investigation.

The devices were discovered after a small explosion on June 19 in the area of 185 Madison St., where investigators found fireworks, a butane gas can, and projectile materials.

Two additional non-detonated devices, constructed with similar materials and placed inside coolers, were found last month in Worcester. Authorities urge the public to be cautious of unattended items, especially coolers. Do not tamper with suspicious items; instead, contact authorities immediately by calling 911.

State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine emphasized the dangers, stating, “Massachusetts residents have caused themselves grievous injuries while attempting to create homemade explosive devices. These devices are illegal and potentially fatal.”
