Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo Discusses Jocelyn Nungaray Case, Calls for Non-Politicization
HARRIS COUNTY, TX—During a recent Harris County Commissioner’s Court meeting, the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray was a major point of discussion. Judge Lina Hidalgo addressed the case, emphasizing the need to refrain from politicizing the tragic incident, despite pointing fingers at national political figures and policies.
“When the former President decided that he didn’t want Biden to have a lid on immigration, he told his party to pull out of that agreement. So, blaming things on the current immigration policy is absolutely political, and it really breaks my heart that people would politicize the sadness of that tragedy,” the judge said in an interview with the media.
Judge Hidalgo argued that “evil happens regardless of immigration status,” in response to the alleged murder of Nungaray by two undocumented Venezuelan men. She criticized the actions of Republicans in Congress and former President Donald Trump, suggesting that their policies contributed to the circumstances leading to Nungaray’s death.
The Judge’s remarks quickly sparked a response, with a reporter questioning the consistency of her plea against politicization while simultaneously assigning blame to specific political leaders and policies. This interaction highlighted the ongoing tension between addressing crime and managing the political discourse surrounding immigration.
