CUMBERLAND, MD – A Western Maryland resident is celebrating a striking win of $88,000 from the Maryland Lottery’s Electric 8s scratch-off game. The thrilling moment occurred last weekend during a routine shopping trip with his wife.

The couple was running errands when they decided to visit Parkview Liquors in Cumberland. Here, the lucky winner purchased four scratch-off tickets, including one Electric 8s instant ticket. It was not until they returned home that the Allegany County man discovered his fortune on the final ticket he scratched.

“I told my wife, ‘Well, this is all or nothing,’” the winner shared with lottery officials in Baltimore. His disbelief was palpable as he revealed the matching winning number that earned him the top prize. “It was $88,000,” he recounted, still amazed by his luck.

The auto technician and his wife verified the win at the lottery retailer before claiming the prize. He is the first to claim the top prize for the Electric 8s game, which started in November 2023. With his winnings, he plans to pay off his car loan, undertake some home improvements, enjoy a vacation, and bolster his savings.

Parkview Liquors, the retailer of the winning ticket, is also celebrating. They will receive an $880 bonus from the Maryland Lottery. This store is no stranger to luck; it sold a $50,000-winning Bonus Match 5 ticket just this past May. With seven more top prizes of $88,000 still available in the Electric 8s game, the excitement continues.
