NEWARK, DE — A pair of audacious crimes targeted gas stations on South College Avenue and South Main Street early this morning, as reported by Lt. Andrew Rubin. The first incident, a burglary, occurred shortly before 6:00 AM at the 1100-block of South College Avenue.
Suspects used a vehicle to smash the front windows of the closed gas station, attempting to steal an ATM, which they ultimately left behind.
Minutes later, the same suspects allegedly struck another gas station in the 200-block of South Main Street. This time, while the business was open, at least two intruders jumped the counter and demanded money.
A third accomplice rammed a vehicle into the station’s front window. The terrified clerk managed to escape unharmed, and the culprits fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Authorities are investigating to determine the connection between these two incidents, both of which involved similar methods but no displayed weapons.
