MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — On Sunday, at around 3:02 PM, Manchester Township Police were called to the scene of a collision at the intersection of State Highway 70 and County Road 571. The accident involved two Honda vehicles — a 2010 Civic and a 2023 CRV.
Upon their arrival, police found the Civic with severe front-end damage facing west, while the CRV was discovered off the road, also with significant damage. Initial reports indicate that the Civic, heading south, tried to turn left onto Highway 70 and collided with the northbound CRV, which then crashed into a nearby traffic sign.
The Civic’s driver, Ledy Huallpajaimes, 66, from Manchester, sustained serious leg injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital where she is now in stable condition. David Castro, 62, the driver of the CRV from Allenwood, was unharmed.
The intersection was closed for several hours as emergency teams, including the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Hatzolah, and Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, worked on scene.
The ongoing investigation by Officer Sage Sysol suggests that the Civic’s failure to adhere to the traffic signal was a key factor in the crash.
