NEW WINDSOR, NY — Fernando Ehrhardt, a 51-year-old licensed dentist from New York, was charged with multiple tax-related offenses, including Criminal Tax Fraud in the Third and Fourth Degrees and Repeated Failure to File Personal Income and Earnings Taxes. These charges, not eligible for bail, led to Ehrhardt’s release on his own recognizance following his arraignment on Tuesday.

Ehrhardt allegedly failed to file personal tax returns and had unpaid tax liabilities from 2016 to 2020 while working at various dental practices in Orange County. He is accused of defrauding New York State of over thirteen thousand dollars. This follows a previous tax warrant against him in August 2017 for unpaid taxes from 2010 to 2013.

The arrest was the result of an investigation by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The case is now being handled by the Orange County White Collar Crime Task Force.

This multi-agency Task Force, formed in March 2023, is committed to addressing public corruption and financial crimes. It includes representatives from several law enforcement agencies across Orange County and the state.

District Attorney David M. Hoovler emphasized the importance of each individual’s tax responsibilities and commended the collaborative efforts to uncover and prosecute tax fraud. Acting Commissioner Amanda Hiller of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance reiterated the serious consequences awaiting those who neglect lawful tax obligations.
