TOMS RIVER, NJ – Drivers heading shore bound on the Garden State Parkway are experiencing significant delays due to heavy traffic volume. As of the latest updates on May 31, 2024, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority has reported two major stretches of congestion.
The first delay spans a 3-mile section southbound from north of the Toms River Toll Plaza to south of Exit 83 – US 9 North in Toms River Township. This delay began around 4:21 PM and was last updated at 5:05 PM.
Additionally, a longer 5-mile delay is affecting the parkway southbound from north of Exit 91B-A – CR 549/Chambers Bridge Road in Wall Township to south of Exit 89A – NJ 70 East in Lakewood Township. This congestion was first reported at 3:24 PM and updated at 5:05 PM.
Motorists are advised to expect prolonged travel times and may want to consider alternative routes if possible. Delays are primarily due to the increase in volume as travelers head towards the shore for weekend getaways.
