GAITHERSBURG, MD. — A 77-year-old Rockville man died Thursday night after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg, according to Montgomery County Police.
Paul Jerome Marangos was hit around 9 p.m. while walking from the median at the intersection of northbound Shady Grove Road and Blackwell Road. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Montgomery County Police said their Collision Reconstruction Unit determined that the driver of a 2020 white Genesis G70 was heading north on Shady Grove Road when the crash occurred. The vehicle entered the intersection at Blackwell Road and struck Marangos, who was reportedly crossing from the median.
Emergency personnel from the 1st District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded quickly to the scene, providing medical aid before transporting Marangos to the hospital.
The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police confirmed.
