QUEENS, N.Y. — Nearly 30 years after an unidentified man was found shot to death near Kew Gardens Road, authorities are renewing efforts to solve the cold case and uncover the victim’s identity.

On October 27, 1994, the body of a male was discovered near 136-09 Kew Gardens Road. Police reported he had been shot and killed. Found on him were a Fila brand watch with a brown strap marked “5469” and a yellow metal ring engraved with the initial “R,” according to the Queens County District Attorney’s Office.

The unidentified male was described as between 25 and 45 years old, standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 248 pounds. He had dark, curly hair about 1.5 inches long and a mustache. Authorities noted a scar or mark on his right forearm, measuring approximately 1.5 inches by a quarter inch.

At the time he was found, the man was wearing black pants secured with a belt, a grey and black shirt, white socks, and black oxford lace-up shoes. Along with the watch and ring, investigators recovered a set of keys from his person.

Search for answers continues in cold case

Despite the discovery of these belongings, the victim has never been identified, and his case remains open. The Queens District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD Cold Case Squad are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“Anyone who may recognize these items or the description is encouraged to contact the authorities,” the DA’s office said in a statement.

Efforts to match the man’s description to missing persons databases have so far been unsuccessful.
