ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. — A Maine man was taken into custody late Saturday night after allegedly running a red light, leading Robbinsville police on a vehicle pursuit, and later head-butting officers during his arrest, authorities said.
The incident unfolded around 11:31 p.m. when Patrolman Ryan Meehan observed a black Range Rover bearing Massachusetts plates run a red light on Route 130 North and turn onto Meadowbrook Road, according to a press release from the Robbinsville Township Police Department. After initiating a traffic stop in a Wawa parking lot, Meehan identified the vehicle but the driver refused to provide identification.

The driver was later identified as Dustin Zimmerman, 32, of Livermore Falls, Maine. When Meehan requested backup, Zimmerman reportedly shifted the vehicle into drive and accelerated out of the parking lot, nearly hitting the officer’s patrol car before fleeing eastbound on Meadowbrook Road.
Zimmerman then crossed Route 130 and continued east on Gordon Road, according to the report. A second Robbinsville officer traveling west on Gordon Road later encountered the suspect vehicle, which was reportedly speeding toward him before veering off the road and into a nearby field.
Police say suspect resisted arrest, was subdued with pepper spray
A felony motor vehicle stop was initiated in the field. During the arrest, police said Zimmerman became “extremely irate” and began to resist, allegedly kicking and head-butting officers. Despite efforts to restrain him using compliance holds, he reportedly continued to fight with officers.
Zimmerman was eventually subdued after being sprayed with oleoresin capsicum, or pepper spray, prompting him to comply with commands. He was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
No serious injuries reported, investigation ongoing
Police confirmed that no officers or the suspect sustained serious injuries during the incident. The Robbinsville Township Police Department did not specify what charges Zimmerman may face, and the investigation remains ongoing.
