Teen trio busted after Dover shooting leaves 19-year-old wounded

DOVER, DE — Three teenagers, including an 18-year-old man and two juveniles, have been arrested in connection with a shooting last week on Nathaniel Mitchell Road that left a 19-year-old injured, Delaware State Police confirmed.

The suspects — 18-year-old Leslie McGuire, a 15-year-old male, and a 16-year-old male, all from Dover — are facing multiple charges after detectives linked them to the April 17 gunfire that also struck an occupied home and two vehicles.

The shooting occurred around 6:14 p.m. in the 1500 block of Nathaniel Mitchell Road. Police said a black male exited a maroon Kia Sportage and fired several rounds at the victim before fleeing the scene in the vehicle. Witnesses reported that three masked teens were inside the Kia when it sped away.

The 19-year-old victim managed to get himself to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police pursuit leads to stolen vehicle recovery and arrests

Hours after the shooting, troopers located the maroon Kia Sportage — reported stolen from Felton — driving north on Walker Road near Bicentennial Boulevard. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled, sparking a pursuit that ended in Smyrna. Five occupants abandoned the car and ran on foot, leading to a large-scale search by troopers, K-9 units, DSP Aviation, and allied agencies.

Four teenagers were arrested following the chase and were initially charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. A 10-year-old found at the scene was not charged. Detectives later determined those teens were not involved in the shooting itself but were part of the group fleeing in the stolen vehicle.

Through continued investigation and with the help of the Dover Police Department, authorities identified McGuire and the two juveniles as the suspects directly tied to the April 17 shooting. Arrest warrants were issued on April 24, and all three have now been charged.
