CRISFIELD, MDMaryland State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man on Friday evening in Somerset County, authorities said.

The victim, identified as Evan Neal of Crisfield, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel after officers found him with an apparent gunshot wound outside an apartment in the 200-block of the Somers Cove neighborhood.

Investigation under way in Somerset County

According to the Maryland State Police, officers from the Crisfield Police Department were dispatched at approximately 4:43 p.m. following reports of a person shot outside an apartment building. Upon arrival, officers located Neal suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene but were unable to save Neal, who was declared deceased shortly after first responders arrived. No additional injuries were reported.

Authorities have not released any information about a potential suspect or motive in the shooting. Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and the Forensic Sciences Division are assisting with the case.

This incident marks one of several violent crimes under investigation in Somerset County in recent months, but police have not indicated whether this shooting is related to any previous cases.
