WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Maxwell Hall was charged with 18 counts of illegal surveillance following the discovery of a hidden camera in a public restroom at Williams College, officials announced Friday.
On March 20, Hall, 21, was formally charged with Photographing, Videotaping, or Electronically Surveilling a Partially Nude or Nude Person in relation to a January 16 incident at the Lasell Gymnasium. A Williams College student discovered the surveillance device, disguised as a phone charger, in a second-floor restroom and immediately reported it to campus authorities.

Authorities say the Campus Safety Service notified the Williamstown Police Department after the student raised concerns. Law enforcement agencies, including the Berkshire Law Enforcement Task Force and the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office’s Special Victims Unit, are jointly handling the case.
“The Campus Safety Service stated they believed there was a surveillance camera placed in a 2nd floor public restroom in the gymnasium,” according to the official release.
Investigation led by multiple agencies
Hall is scheduled to appear for arraignment at the Northern Berkshire District Court on June 2. No information has been released regarding the defendant’s legal representation.
Investigators have asked anyone who was present in the second-floor restroom of Lasell Gymnasium on January 16 between noon and 5:00 p.m. to reach out. Sgt. Shuan William is the designated contact for potential victims.
