Key Points:

Prosecutors detail early morning ambush
The victim was struck at least three times—in the head, face, and arm—as he walked along Arizona Avenue around 5:50 a.m., according to the indictment. Despite his injuries, the man managed to crawl to his backyard and bang on a door for help before a family member called 911. He was transported to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in critical condition, suffering injuries that remain life-threatening.
“A past workplace disagreement spurred this alleged horrific unprovoked attack that left a man with catastrophic injuries and clinging to life,” DA Donnelly said. The defendant had worked as a taxi driver at the same company but left the job in 2022.
Arrest followed search of defendant’s home
Surveillance footage showed the suspect fleeing on a white electronic bicycle while wearing dark clothing. A search warrant executed at Calvo’s residence on February 19 recovered a white e-bike and a full-face mask. He was arrested March 12 by Long Beach Police officers.
Long Beach Acting Police Commissioner Richard DePalma praised the collaborative work of investigators, calling the indictment a “critical step in delivering justice and ensuring safety for our community.”
Victim remains in critical condition as prosecution moves forward
Calvo was remanded and is scheduled to return to court on June 2. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. The case is being prosecuted by the Nassau County DA’s Homicide Bureau.
