STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A high-speed street race involving a father and son ended with a power outage affecting approximately 2,000 residents and multiple criminal charges after a Mustang crashed into a utility pole on Courthouse Road, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. on April 22 when Deputy X.D. Bates responded to the 1500 block of Courthouse Road following reports of a severe crash. According to witnesses, the Mustang was speeding when its juvenile driver lost control, nearly striking a child playing nearby before crashing into and toppling an electric pole.
Shortly after the crash, a green Porsche arrived at the scene. The driver, later identified as the Mustang driver’s father, picked up the juvenile and fled. A witness followed the Porsche to a home on Brooke Road and notified deputies.
Upon arrival, law enforcement located the Porsche and attempted to make contact with the residents. A standoff lasting approximately an hour ensued before both the father and son complied with deputies’ commands.

An investigation revealed the father had encouraged his son to race along Courthouse Road. The father was arrested and charged with racing, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, obstruction of justice, and hit and run. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

The juvenile is facing pending charges including racing, failure to report a hit and run, and driving without a license. No injuries were reported, though the crash caused significant infrastructure damage and a major power disruption for local residents.
