ALBANY, N.Y. — Two lucky New Yorkers are $50,000 richer after scoring third-prize wins in the Powerball drawing held Monday night.
The winning tickets were sold at separate locations across the state, with one purchased at HARJAS NY, located at 160 North Central Avenue in Elmsford, and the other at METRO MART NY, 2655 Richmond Avenue in Staten Island.
Each ticket matched four of the five white balls plus the red Power Ball in the April 21 drawing, earning the third-tier prize of $50,000.
The Powerball numbers are drawn from a pool of one to 69 for the white balls and one to 26 for the red Power Ball. Drawings take place three times a week—every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
NY Lottery continues streak of local wins
The New York Lottery has not disclosed the identities of the winners. Players have one year from the drawing date to claim their prize. Retailers that sell winning tickets do not receive a commission for third-prize Powerball tickets.
Powerball remains one of the most widely played lottery games in the country, regularly producing multiple winners in various prize tiers across the state.
According to the New York Lottery, proceeds from ticket sales contribute billions annually to public education throughout the state.
