NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted for aggravated assault after he allegedly punched another man during an early morning altercation in Newark’s South Ward, officials said.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 20, in the 100 block of Polk Street. According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the victim had been speaking with a woman when her boyfriend approached, sparking a verbal dispute that quickly escalated.
Police say the suspect punched the victim multiple times in the face before fleeing the scene on foot, heading northbound on Polk Street. The victim’s injuries have not been disclosed, and it is unclear whether medical treatment was required.

The suspect, whose image was released by the department, remains at large. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the area for witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.

Director Miranda encouraged anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line. Tips may remain anonymous, and rewards are possible for information leading to an arrest.
“All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are confidential and could result in a reward,” the department reiterated in its appeal.
Officials did not provide further details on the woman involved in the dispute or whether she remained at the scene following the attack.
