Metro Police Department’s Third District detectives have swiftly apprehended a suspect. The incident occurred today around 2:53 PM, in the 1200 block of W Street, Northwest. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Lenare Leath, Jr. of Northwest D.C., allegedly brandished a knife and pushed the victim to the ground in an attempt to steal their property. After a struggle, the suspect fled empty-handed but was quickly caught by responding officers. The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 15-year-old male has been arrested in connection with a March shooting on 7th Street, Northwest, that left another teenager hospitalized with serious injuries.

The incident occurred on Saturday, March 29, at approximately 10:13 p.m. in the 1200 block of 7th Street. Officers from the Third District responded to reports of gunfire and found a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived.

DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. The extent of the injuries was described as serious, though no updates on the victim’s current condition were provided.

Authorities confirmed that on Monday, April 21, the suspect — identified as a 15-year-old male from Northeast D.C. — was taken into custody pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order. He has been charged with Assault With Intent To Kill (Gun).

Arrest made, investigation remains active

The Metropolitan Police Department stated that the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. No additional details about the motive or circumstances of the shooting have been released.

Officials are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for violent crimes in the District.
