NYPD hunts suspect in Harlem anti-Asian hate crime assault

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with an anti-Asian hate crime that left two people injured during a violent confrontation inside a Harlem business earlier this month.

The attack took place on Sunday, April 6, at approximately 2:35 p.m. inside a commercial establishment at 2419 7th Avenue, within the confines of the 32nd Precinct, according to the NYPD.

A 42-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man were inside the store when they were approached by an unidentified individual who began making anti-Asian remarks. The suspect then pulled the female victim’s hair and dragged her to the ground.

The attacker proceeded to strike the male victim in the head and face with a closed fist, causing a laceration to his lip. The suspect then fled the location on foot.

Victims declined medical treatment at scene

Both victims sustained minor injuries but refused medical attention at the scene. The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is leading the investigation.

Police have released surveillance images of the suspect and are asking the public for assistance in identifying the individual. The suspect remains at large as of Sunday.
