GERMANTOWN, Md. — A Montgomery County resident hit a home run of his own during the April 16 Orioles game, cashing in on a $6,500 prize as the Maryland Lottery’s Home Run Riches Contestant of the Game.

Raymond Mitchell of Germantown scored the top payout after Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday blasted the team’s first grand slam of the 2025 season. Holliday’s bases-loaded homer during the second inning netted Mitchell $5,000 on top of the $500 for being selected and $500 for each additional home run.

The 62-year-old federal worker said he’d encouraged friends to watch the game after learning he was picked. Mitchell, a regular player of the Home Run Riches Walk-Off Winnings game, also shared his excitement on social media, using the hashtag #grandslam before the game.

Two more home runs followed Holliday’s grand slam, hit by Ryan O’Hearn and Ramón Laureano, bringing Mitchell’s prize total to $6,500. It marked his second time as a Contestant of the Game; in 2024, he won $2,000 after three home runs were hit during his assigned game.

Holliday delivers again

Holliday has now helped two Contestants win big with grand slams in back-to-back seasons. His first career home run in 2024 was also a grand slam, which rewarded another player with a $6,000 prize.
