GERMANTOWN, Md. — Raymond Mitchell had every reason to cheer during the Orioles’ April 16 game against the Cleveland Guardians — a second-inning grand slam brought him a $5,000 prize as part of the Maryland Lottery’s Home Run Riches Contestant of the Game promotion.
Mitchell, 62, was selected as the Contestant of the Game and watched along with friends and followers after posting about his selection on social media. His call for big hits paid off when Baltimore’s Jackson Holliday launched the team’s first grand slam of the season, triggering a $5,000 win for the Montgomery County resident.
In total, Mitchell collected $6,500 during the game — $500 for being selected, $500 each for additional home runs by Ryan O’Hearn and Ramón Laureano, and the grand slam bonus. Holliday, who also hit a grand slam last season during another big Contestant of the Game win, delivered once again.
Mitchell, a federal employee and repeat entrant in the promotion, said he has previously won $2,000 in 2024 when selected for another game. He continues to enter by playing Home Run Riches Walk-Off Winnings, a $5 FAST PLAY ticket that features instant prizes and eligibility for the second-chance drawings.
Orioles offense triggers lottery windfall
The second-chance promotion selects one Contestant of the Game for each of the Orioles’ 162 regular season games. Contestants receive $500 automatically, with an additional $500 per home run and $5,000 for any grand slam hit by the Orioles during their designated game.
Mitchell’s win marks the second time Holliday has helped a Contestant secure a major prize with a bases-loaded blast.
