PHILADELPHIA, PA — A woman was killed late Thursday night in a hit-and-run collision involving a dark-colored SUV on the 2800 block of Cottman Avenue, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

The fatal crash occurred around 11:27 p.m. in Northeast Philadelphia. Investigators say a dark SUV was traveling eastbound on Cottman Avenue when it struck a Hispanic female pedestrian attempting to cross the road from the north to the south side.

The impact dragged the victim along the roadway. The driver did not stop and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Philadelphia Fire Department medics responded and transported the woman to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. She was suffering from severe head and chest trauma, as well as internal bleeding. Medical personnel pronounced her dead at 12:27 a.m. Friday.

The identity of the victim remains unknown, and authorities are working to confirm her name and notify next of kin.

Police seek SUV in fatal pedestrian strike

Police released images of the suspected vehicle and are asking for public assistance in identifying the SUV involved. The department has not yet confirmed the make or model but described it only as a dark-colored SUV.

“The Philadelphia Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle shown in the attached photos,” officials said in a statement released Friday.

The case is being handled by the Crash Investigation Division. Officials are urging anyone with information to contact the Accident Investigation Division at 215-685-3180 or submit an anonymous tip online.
