Virginia woman crashes BMW drunk with kids in the car

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A Stafford woman with two prior DUI convictions was arrested early Thursday morning after crashing her BMW into a parked car while allegedly intoxicated, with two children in the vehicle.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 12:43 a.m. on April 17 on Little Oak Road. Responding Deputy C.A. Osborne found that the BMW had struck an unoccupied Volkswagen.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Lidia Cruz, told the deputy she had been “distracted” at the time of the crash. However, signs of intoxication—including the smell of alcohol—led to further investigation, during which Cruz admitted to drinking tequila before driving. Alcohol containers were also found inside the vehicle.

Two children were in the BMW at the time of the accident. They were evaluated by Fire and Rescue personnel and later released to a responsible adult, authorities said.

Woman held without bond after third DUI

Cruz, who has two previous DUI convictions within the past decade, was charged with a third offense DUI with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2. She also faces two counts of child neglect.

She is currently being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
