HACKENSACK, N.J. — Three New York City teens have been charged in connection with an armed carjacking in Hackensack, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Thursday.

The suspects—two 18-year-olds and one 17-year-old—were minors at the time of the incident, which occurred on April 22, 2024, around 4:26 a.m. on South River Street. According to authorities, the trio, masked and armed, initially attempted to rob a victim of jewelry before returning minutes later to forcibly take the victim’s wallet, phone, jewelry, and vehicle.

Investigators say the suspects fled the scene in both the victim’s car and a black Mercedes that had been reported stolen from New York City earlier the same night.

The year-long joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department identified the trio as the alleged perpetrators. Their names were not released due to their juvenile status at the time of the offense.

In March 2025, the three were charged with juvenile delinquency on multiple counts, including first-degree armed robbery, first-degree carjacking, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
