WILDWOOD, N.J. — The Wildwoods’ Boardwalk has claimed the No. 1 spot in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 for Best Boardwalk in the United States, the publication announced Wednesday.
Selected by public vote after being nominated by a panel of travel experts, the Wildwoods edged out competitors from California to Maine to secure the top ranking. The recognition follows a record-setting 2024 tourism season and arrives ahead of a busy summer slate for the seaside resort town.
“It’s thrilling to see our boardwalk named the best in the nation,” said Louis M. Belasco, Executive Director of the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority. “This recognition is truly special because it comes from the visitors, residents, and fans of the Wildwoods who cherish our boardwalk.”
Known for its wide beaches and iconic tram cars, the Wildwoods Boardwalk stretches for 38 blocks and includes more than 100 rides and attractions across three piers. The site also boasts waterparks, arcades, carnival games, eateries, and retail shops, drawing millions of visitors each summer.
Originally built in the 1890s as a 150-yard stretch to keep sand out of hotels, the Boardwalk has undergone multiple reconstructions and relocations. Its enduring popularity has even inspired the design of theme park attractions in Disney World and Hershey Park, Pennsylvania.
Boardwalk legacy continues to grow
In addition to the new USA Today honor, the Wildwoods Boardwalk has previously been recognized by National Geographic, CNN Travel, Reader’s Digest, and Smart Travel. It has also earned accolades from New Jersey Family Magazine and multiple national media outlets as a top-tier beachside destination.
Bike ramps at both ends of the Boardwalk allow cyclists to connect to larger scenic trails, including a six-mile ride through North Wildwood to the Sea Wall. The promenade remains a focal point of summer activity for visitors of all ages.
