PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — A former Patchogue Village Code Enforcement officer has been arrested after authorities say he unlawfully detained a woman during a fake DWI stop and drove her home in December despite having no legal authority to do so.
William Dymond, 33, of Medford, was charged with two felonies — falsifying business records in the first degree and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree — along with two misdemeanors: unlawful imprisonment in the second degree and official misconduct.
Officials say Dymond was on duty as a code enforcement officer on December 29 when he followed a woman he believed was driving under the influence. He pulled her over on North Ocean Avenue in Patchogue, conducted field sobriety tests, placed her in handcuffs, and loaded her into his code enforcement vehicle before driving her to her home in Centereach.
Code enforcement officers in Patchogue do not have the authority to conduct DWI investigations or make arrests.
Termination followed internal review
An internal investigation into the incident led to Dymond’s termination last month. Prosecutors said the false documentation filed in relation to the incident led to the felony charges.
Police are now asking the public to come forward with any additional complaints. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Dymond is urged to contact the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fifth Squad.
