NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old have been charged with juvenile delinquency offenses related to the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in New Brunswick, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Brunswick Police Chief Vincent Sabo announced Tuesday.
The charges stem from a March 31 shooting near Lee Avenue and Rutgers Street. Authorities say the victim, a 16-year-old New Brunswick resident, was shot and transported by individuals at the scene to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

An investigation led by Detective Brandt Gregus of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office identified the two juveniles, both from New Brunswick, as the alleged shooters.
The 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody on April 3 and is currently being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing before a Family Court Judge. The status of the 16-year-old suspect was not disclosed.
If tried as adults, the charges against the teens would include murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and conspiracy.
