TRENTON, NJ — Route 18 in East Brunswick will face multiple overnight closures in both directions throughout the week beginning Monday, as the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) conducts roadway reconstruction, gas main, and drainage installation, officials announced.

Southbound and northbound closures through midweek

Starting at 10 p.m. Monday, April 14, Route 18 southbound will be closed nightly through Wednesday, April 16, until 6 a.m. each morning. The closure runs from West Ferris to Arthur Street for gas main and drainage installation. Southbound drivers will be detoured via West Ferris Street, Old Bridge Turnpike, and Arthur Street.

Meanwhile, Route 18 northbound will close nightly from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Tices Lane and Edgeboro Road from Monday, April 14, through Thursday, April 17, for roadway reconstruction. Motorists will be rerouted through Tices Lane and Old Bridge Turnpike.

Double northbound closures later in the week

Beginning Thursday night, April 17, additional northbound closures will affect different sections of Route 18. From 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, April 18, the highway will be closed from Arthur Street to Milltown Road for gas main and drainage installation. Drivers will detour via Arthur Street, Old Bridge Turnpike, and Milltown Road.

That will be followed by another closure from Tices Lane to Edgeboro Road starting at 9 p.m. Friday, April 18, and ending at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 19, to continue roadway reconstruction efforts. The same detour via Tices Lane and Old Bridge Turnpike will be in place.

Delays expected; electronic signs in use

NJDOT has activated variable message signs throughout the affected areas to notify motorists of the upcoming closures and detours. All work schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
