On April 10, the woman, a federal employee, stayed home from work due to a sinus infection. Hoping to feel better, she visited the Safeway on Harford Road to grab ingredients for a smoothie. While there, she cashed a $120 Keno win and used part of the money to buy a few more tickets — including a $50 $5,000,000 Cash scratch-off.
Back home, she scanned her tickets using the Maryland Lottery app. The final ticket showed a confetti animation and a message indicating she’d hit a massive prize. She couldn’t tell at first if she had won $5,000 or $5 million and scanned it repeatedly in disbelief.
Emotional moment leads to sleepless night before prize claim
Still unsure, she called her mother, who left work to help her verify the win. It wasn’t until she scratched the full ticket and matched the winning number that she confirmed the $5 million prize.
The winner said she could barely sleep before claiming her prize, prompting her chosen nickname “Sleepless Flower Girl.” She told officials that in addition to buying a home, she hopes to invest the money to provide long-term financial stability for her family.
Retailer rewarded as two top prizes still remain
The winning ticket was purchased at the Safeway at 4401 Harford Road. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket. The $5,000,000 Cash game still has two top prizes of $5 million remaining, along with multiple other high-tier prizes.
