TRENTON, N.J. — A 40-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter were found shot to death Saturday inside their Trenton residence, prompting a double homicide investigation by local police and the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.

Victims pronounced dead at the scene
Trenton Police responded to a 911 call around 10:30 a.m. reporting two deceased individuals at a home in the 300 block of West State Street. Upon arrival, officers found the teenage girl in a third-floor bedroom with a gunshot wound, while her mother was discovered in the stairway leading to the same floor, also suffering from a gunshot wound.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released their names.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the investigation is being led jointly by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department.
Person of interest in custody on unrelated matter
A person of interest has been detained in connection with the case, but on unrelated charges. No arrests directly related to the shootings have been made as of Saturday evening.
Officials have not disclosed the nature of the unrelated charges or the relationship, if any, between the detained individual and the victims.
