SOUTH RIVER, N.J. — A road rage incident on Ferry Street escalated into a weapons-related confrontation that led to the recovery of an illegal firearm, criminal charges against one suspect, and a search for three unidentified individuals, police announced Wednesday.

The South River Police Department said the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 1, at approximately 5:27 p.m. when detectives in an unmarked vehicle noticed a disturbance involving several individuals. Investigators determined the disturbance was the conclusion of a road rage event involving multiple people armed with weapons.
Detectives identified one participant, 21-year-old Donovan Cimaglia of East Brunswick, and linked him to a vehicle involved in the incident. A search warrant executed on the vehicle led to the discovery of a handgun with a loaded high-capacity magazine, according to police.
Investigation ongoing
Cimaglia has been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault, riot, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and other weapon-related crimes. A warrant for his arrest has been issued, police said.
Three additional suspects remain unidentified, and the South River Police Department has released images of the individuals and a vehicle believed to be used during the incident. Authorities are asking for the public’s help to identify the remaining suspects.

“Chief Mark Tinitigan wishes to announce an ongoing investigation which has already led to criminal charges,” the department said in a social media statement. The chief commended detectives for “their swift and thorough investigation that took a dangerous weapon off the street.”
