SILVER SPRING, MD – A Montgomery County groundskeeper hit a life-changing jackpot after purchasing a $20 Bonus Bingo X20 scratch-off ticket during his lunch break, winning the game’s $500,000 top prize.

The Silver Spring resident, who said he plays the Lottery once a week, chose the ticket on a whim with the last $20 in his wallet after buying food and a soda. He didn’t discover the win until later that evening when he scanned the ticket using a family member’s Lottery app.

His first thought, he said, was about buying his mother the home of her dreams, calling the win “a blessing” for his entire family.

The ticket, sold at Long Branch Beer & Wine on University Boulevard East in Silver Spring, marks the first top-prize win since Bonus Bingo X20 launched in mid-January. The retailer received a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Four more $500,000 top prizes remain in the game, along with five $50,000 second-tier prizes. The winner also shared plans to potentially launch his own groundskeeping business.
