Queens, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the sentencing of Henrry Gutierrez, who received 25 years to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of his 52-year-old brother in July 2022. The incident took place inside a multi-unit residence in Jamaica, where the brothers lived on separate floors.

District Attorney Katz described the event as a family tragedy, with one brother deceased and another facing a lengthy prison term. Gutierrez, 32, residing on Jamaica Avenue, was convicted of second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon on February 10, following a jury trial that began on February 4. Justice Michael Aloise, overseeing the trial, delivered the sentence.

On July 12, 2022, at around 6:20 p.m., Gutierrez entered the second-floor apartment of the building, occupied by his brother Oscar Gutierrez, his ex-girlfriend, and her son. Following a confrontation, Henrry Gutierrez used a knife obtained from the kitchen to stab his brother 14 times.

Authorities were alerted by family members, but Gutierrez fled prior to police arrival
