BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a 32-year-old Salvadoran national on March 28 following his release from a state correctional facility in New York, where he served time for attempted murder and gang assault.
Osmin Guevara-Ramirez, an undocumented immigrant, was taken into ICE custody immediately after completing a six-year prison sentence at the Wyoming Correctional Facility in Attica. He had been convicted by the Nassau County Supreme Court on September 3, 2021, and sentenced to imprisonment along with five years of post-release supervision.
Guevara first entered the United States illegally near McAllen, Texas, on or about June 30, 2015. U.S. Border Patrol arrested him near Lake Charles, Louisiana, on July 10 of that year. After being issued a notice to appear, he was placed into removal proceedings.
On August 27, 2015, an immigration judge released Guevara on bond and transferred his case to New York. He failed to appear for immigration court, and on January 23, 2023, he was ordered removed in absentia.
ICE had lodged an immigration detainer against Guevara on December 8, 2023, which was honored by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision upon his release.
He is currently detained in ICE custody without bond pending removal.
