SILVER SPRING, MD – A routine stop at a local retailer turned into a high-stakes win for a Montgomery County man who scratched his way to a $50,000 prize on a MONOPOLY X100 ticket.
The Silver Spring resident, who frequently plays Maryland Lottery games like Keno and Pick 3, picked up three $20 MONOPOLY X100 scratch-offs at Old World Favorites on International Drive. The first two tickets yielded nothing — but the third delivered a major surprise.
A number 3 in the second-to-last row of the ticket matched one of the Winning Numbers at the top. When he scratched off the corresponding prize, the man revealed the $50,000 payout.
The winner has not yet decided how he’ll use the money, saying he’s still processing the unexpected windfall.
MONOPOLY X100 is one of six themed scratch-offs currently offered by the Maryland Lottery. As of April 1, five of the game’s $1 million top prizes remain unclaimed, along with three additional $50,000 second-tier prizes and numerous smaller amounts.
The MONOPOLY tickets are licensed by Scientific Games, LLC. Non-winning tickets can be entered into a Second-Chance Promotion that includes monthly drawings for $5,000 and rolling cash jackpots starting at $10,000.
