SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Police and humane officers are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty after a severely injured dog was found near Eastern Parkway and McClellan Street, authorities said Sunday.
Schenectady Police Department’s Animal Control Unit responded to a report on Saturday afternoon about a dog discovered the previous evening in dire condition. Officers arrived at the scene to find a female dog suffering from serious wounds and signs of abuse.
The dog, now named “Lavender” by staff at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, was underweight and had extensive injuries to her face and ears, including one ear that appeared to have been intentionally cut off. Officers also noted that she had fractured teeth.

She was immediately transported to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, where she is currently receiving veterinary care. Images of the dog were shared on the police department’s social media page.
The Schenectady Police Department is working jointly with its detectives and Humane Law Officers from the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society to investigate the case as animal cruelty.
