MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A 31-year-old man was stabbed in the hand Saturday evening while sitting on a bench near West 25th Street and Fifth Avenue, police said.
The unprovoked attack happened around 5:30 p.m., when an unidentified male suspect approached the victim and stabbed him in the right hand before fleeing northbound on Fifth Avenue.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, according to authorities.
Police are searching for the suspect, described as a male with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a multicolored jacket, blue jeans, and brown shoes.
The motive for the stabbing remains unknown, and it is unclear if the victim and suspect knew each other.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage in the area and asking for anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
