BALTIMORE, MD — A Prince George’s County resident and 20-year Army veteran claimed a $50,000 Maryland Lottery prize this week after his Pick 5 numbers hit in the March 24 drawing.
The winner, who purchased the ticket at Three Road Liquors located at 13704 Brandywine Road in Brandywine, based his number selection on the license plate of an old vehicle. The ticket produced the largest win of his lottery-playing history.
He said he enjoys the thrill of playing, often sticking with Pick 3 and Pick 4, where he previously won up to $2,500. This time, the Pick 5 game delivered a major payout — and he has clear plans for the prize.
“It’s just the thrill,” he said after claiming his winnings at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He plans to use the money to “take care of business,” including celebrating modestly, helping out grandchildren, and addressing some financial matters.
Though many winners choose to travel, this Army veteran — who has already visited many parts of the world during his service — says he has no desire to go abroad again. He noted the Arabian Peninsula as the most fascinating destination from his years of service.
Three Road Liquors will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
