MONTVILLE, N.J. — Authorities are investigating the discovery of a man’s body found in the Passaic River near Route 46 on Sunday and are urging the public to assist in identifying the deceased.
According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, the body was spotted by two fishermen at approximately 4:30 p.m. Montville Police officers, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene and recovered the body, which lacked identification.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the man was between 20 and 35 years old, stood 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighed approximately 166 pounds. His race is believed to be either Black or mixed. Officials noted two tattoos that may aid in identification.
The chest tattoo reads “Toolie,” while a second tattoo on the lower left arm reads, “for those I love I will sacrifice.” The medical examiner’s office is still working to determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators stated that there were no signs of trauma or injury indicating foul play. “Scans of the body were negative for projectiles or foreign objects,” officials said.
The case is under joint investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Montville Police Department.
