In a fiery and insensitive remark against the disabled that has set social media ablaze today, Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas took a sharp swipe at Governor Greg Abbott, referring to the wheelchair-using Republican as “Governor Hot Wheels.”

The comment, delivered with Crockett’s characteristic profanity-laden urban flair, came during a recent public statement where she didn’t hold back her feelings about the state’s leadership.

“We in these hot ass Texas streets, honey,” Crockett declared, setting the stage for her jab. “Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there. Come on now. And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot ass mess, honey.”

The quip quickly drew laughter and gasps in equal measure, while reigniting debates about political decorum—or the lack thereof.

Her opponent, Sholden Daniels didn’t hold back.

“The only way we boot Jasmine Crockett off Capitol Hill is at the ballot box. This fight is winnable, but we need your help to achieve victory,” he said today.

Crockett’s reference to Abbott’s disability, a result of a 1984 accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down, has already sparked backlash from some quarters.

The “Hot Wheels” moniker isn’t the first time Crockett has turned heads with her rhetoric. Representing Texas’s 30th Congressional District since 2023, she’s built a reputation for colorful language and no-nonsense takes on issues ranging from voting rights to climate policy.

Her latest zinger, however, may test the limits of how far her supporters—and detractors—are willing to let her style slide.
