BURTONSVILLE, MD — A Laurel stockbroker is celebrating a $250,000 Maryland Lottery windfall after a spur-of-the-moment decision to play five identical Pick 5 tickets — all of which hit for $50,000 each in the March 6 evening drawing.

The Prince George’s County man said he was pumping gas at the 7-Eleven located at 15585 Old Columbia Pike when he felt an unusual itch on his hand. Recalling a superstition linking itchy palms to incoming money, he interpreted the moment as a sign.

Using his usual method of picking numbers based on family birthdays, he played the combination 32681 on five $1 straight tickets. When the evening drawing results matched his number exactly, each ticket earned him the top prize of $50,000, totaling $250,000.

He said he plans to invest his winnings and continue relying on instinct for his occasional Lottery plays. The Burtonsville 7-Eleven earned a $2,500 bonus for selling the five winning tickets.
