FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Virginia man saw his Powerball winnings triple after opting for the Power Play feature, turning a $50,000 prize into $150,000 in the January 20 drawing.

John Sarwari matched four of the five white balls plus the Powerball number after purchasing his ticket at the CVS on 5832 Harrison Road in Fredericksburg. His use of Easy Pick allowed the computer to randomly generate his numbers.

The winning numbers in that drawing were 15, 16, 32, 47, and 54, with a Powerball number of 6. Sarwari, who works in the medical field, has no immediate plans for his winnings.

Powerball drawings take place three times a week, with jackpot odds at 1 in 292.2 million. Virginia Lottery profits support K-12 education, with Spotsylvania County receiving more than $16.1 million in funding last fiscal year.
