BURTONSVILLE, MD — A Montgomery County woman fittingly claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize on St. Patrick’s Day after holding onto the winning ticket for months.
The winner, calling herself “Lucky Lady” for publicity purposes, purchased the ticket for the Oct. 23, 2024, drawing at Laurel Park Liquor and Deli, 13600 Baltimore Avenue in Laurel. She matched four white balls and the red Powerball to secure the third-tier prize.
An occasional lottery player, she bought the ticket while out running errands and only realized her win the following morning after checking her numbers multiple times. She then called her daughter, who accompanied her to claim the prize.
For now, “Lucky Lady” says the winnings are going straight into the bank. Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot for March 19 stands at an estimated $416 million, and the Mega Millions jackpot for March 18 is estimated at $301 million.
