Routine stop turns violent as officers attacked in Southeast DC

Washington, D.C. A routine encounter in Southeast DC turned violent when multiple individuals attacked police officers, prompting an ongoing search for one of the suspects.

The incident took place on March 11 at approximately 3:59 p.m. in the 2600 block of Birney Place, Southeast. Officers from the Seventh District’s Special Missions Unit were engaging with a man consuming marijuana in a public space when the assault occurred.

One of the suspects was caught on surveillance cameras, and police have released images in hopes of identifying him.
